Grizzly

With their high powered rifles
These skulking clowns
Seemed totally gratified
For The ups and the downs
These murdering blackguards
Out on the earth
Firing their rifles
For all they were worth

Which is very little
If anything, they
The scourge of humanity
For they blew away
A wild beast who lived
Where creation had put
In nature the wilderness yes
Every foot

Of his life on the planet
Was wildness galore
Till these vile human beings
Started their war
Blood pouring from him
Such anxiety
The threat to his life
“Holy cow”
We can see

Sucking in air
Taking their lead
He goes into free fall
And now he is dead

In the shivering wastes
In the ice and the snow
These trophy hunters they
Knew where to go

A very safe distance
Away from the bear
Who probably didn’t even know
they were there

Freezing at night
This very brave soul
Was shot, missed and shot again
They in control

Two dirty bastards
Their unsavouriness
Terribly sickening
We can but bless

That bear for his efforts
In trying to run
Not a hint of compassion
Just a bloody great gun

Just a murdering spree
The stridor of death
It stuck with its hope
Drawing in breath

Such darkness was obvious
Spreaders of doom
They extinguished a life force
That nature did groom

This was its place
But they came to kill
And despite its long trial
Its passion did spill

Its blood stained the snow
As it legged it away
To be beaten by more shots
A thoughtless display

Cruelty really
And evil intent
Of egregious torture
Nothing well meant

This bear was a big boy
With a huge heart and soul
Destroyed by two weaklings
Both out of control

Without consideration
They shot him to death
Watched as he faltered
And cried out for breath

They shot him again
So mindless were they
And only pure evil to pass off
And say

Anyone watching this sickening scene
Knows those men need hunting
For they haven’t been
Subjected to danger
Sent from afar
And till they are party to it
Then they are

Arrogant dark forces
And they should be
Run down and shot
For their psychotic spree
Be made to feel the total unease
To be wounded and downtrodden
With damaged knees
Bleeding and harrowed
And suffering so
Feel what the bear felt
All of that woe

Being distressed by it
Suffering so
The gravity of it
How it does grow
The hideousness of it
And just that fright
The realisation
Of now what was right
Such consternation
Such abject fear
Losing ones nerve
As the bullets fall near

You are haunted and dreading
The end for it seems
Despite your endurance
Despite all those dreams
Of life in the moment
That cowardice may be
The one saving grace
As you fall rapidly

Rolling and dying
Blood leaking fast
Gathering speed
Their die is cast
There is no going back
As darkness prevails
And their eyes close for good
With the wind in their sails

They fly for a moment
Lost to the world
Contempt was the picture
In which they were hurled

If trophy hunters
Could go through this scene
Could imagine the agony
And could have been
Able to sense it
And feel it and be
Part of it
Then just, just possibly
It might make them think
And realise they
Could do much kinder
things
Than what they did today
