“Shirley”. And her little “ricardo”

Once in a lifetime babies are born
Shirley gave birth
Her baby was torn
Away from her side
In frustration and woe
She kicked poor Ricardo
But she didn’t know

Total incompetence
Trainers in tow
She wanted to smell him to touch him
To show
Motherly love
But these ignorant men
Their total untimeliness
They didn’t know when

They didn’t know how
For them it was new
And in fact in reality
The delivery crew
Lacking any empathy
Causing distress
They were incapable
Nobody blessed

This misalliance
Of feelings were felt
Human intrusion
The bad cards they dealt
Caused Shirley to anger
To sadden to sigh
Being dug with a blade
On the side of her thigh

A circus is no place
For animals, they
Need space and a wilderness
Somewhere to play
Not restrained at the end
Of some chain or some hook
And beaten with bull hooks
To bring them to book

By 2018 or so they say
All of the ele’s will be going away
Out into sanctuaries thats their desire
Till then I must say they are playing with fire
In this case dear Ricardo training to be
Some kind of acrobat fell tragically
Broke both his legs and had to be put down
Yet more incompetence from the chief clown

ringling’s honestly we have heard it before
These are wild animals outside their law
They walk for miles they are social souls
They so not adapt to be shackled their roles
In trucks and in wagons and chained in a tent
This is no habitat who’d be content
With this dreadful life the circus must end
Wild animals truthfully we have to defend

Look at Ricardo what chance did he have
He never knew love who was lost to the world
These part time trainers are hopeless in fact
They too are really only now hurled
Into the ring of life and they don’t know
What makes an elephant tick its the show
It has to go on get bums on seats
Sell loads of tickets its one of the treats

For people in towns to the circus to see
Performing animals look mum they be
Out there performing the elephants they
Can climb and can cycle they do it all day
What kind of fools are we imagining they
Want to be climbing about their dismay
At being here performing tricks for a few
Idiot humans with nothing to do.
