Caterpillar Cat

Pale eyes almost alien to the soul
Who sat there on
Goudhurst
Road in Downham
Till we just upped, and were gone
A kind of spiky furry
Caterpillar of a cat
Staring in a locked embrace
That’s where she was at

A really gorgeous colour
An elongated gait
Clearly a metamorphic smile
Content just to debate
yes she did all the talking
Uncomplaining and secure
Reconciled to making peace
And having to endure
Our gaze, she crouched
Approving
Her splendour was her own
Quite the sweet enchantress
She sat there all alone

A well proportioned body
A sort and swishy tail
Curious and artistic
Ready to derail
Us humans gazing at her
Hopeful she would see
That we could feel her
Self effacing mesmerising glee

And as we drove around the corner
In what was a warmish phase
We kind of felt those creepy eyes
As she fell back to laze

Quietly near the roadside
Curiously to share
To share those alien eyeballs
So pale but so aware
Rolling in her furry head
For all the world to see
Crawling kind of caterpillar like
Effusively
