A temporary stay of execution

Man’s best friend

a term that’s used so widely

if then is man’s best friend

then what chance we

millions are nor being murdered

everywhere

in pounds in shelters

look at this and see

a tailgate of a truck

was loose and open

and out they poured

like milk into a bowl

animals each one a sweet creation

each had a heart a mind

and a sweet soul

someone owned and supposedly look after them

but really in a nutshell

let them be

the cruelty was evident

they found themselves alone

and lost and in a shelter

tragically

everybody wiped their hands

and turned away

and executions happened

they happen every day

loaded up like rubbish

no ceremony at all

and shipped off to the landfill

and dumped that was their call

lives wasted lost and thrown away

this is man’s idea

use them and abuse them

and fill their lives with fear

if this what we do to friends

to our enemies god knows

and the shelters role in all of this

the sadness really grows

shelters are just stages

where execution seems

the only course of action

the rest is in our dreams

we take them to the shelter

a place really where death

comes to all and sundry

that’s where all life and breath

is stolen very rapidly

ts the land fill as their grave

tossed into a hill of doom

nobody to save

any little creature

left to rot away

to be eaten by the vermin drawn there

night and day

it was employee error

how it came to light

but reality explains it all

it happens day and night

every day these trips occur

the shelter s the place

where slaughter is the only means

another sick disgrace

a wake up call

to all of us

that man’s best friend

is killed

every hour of every day

their blood is being spilled

How sick we are

to allow this

but t easier to say

sorry chum we are tired of you

you have to go away

each has a heart

each has a mind

each has a soul as well

but we don’t want you anymore

so are putting you in Hell
