Grass fed Calves

Grass fed
what a swizzle
what a sick short sighted show
humanely raised on verdant grass
that so succulently does grow
the poor calf locked into a cage
not much bigger than he
and left to chew between his feet
free supposedly

out there in the sunshine
to ruminate a way
free ranging like some dreamy state
of consciousness we pay
more for such a picture
in our minds eye what we see
is utter freedom the green green grass
and joviality

but really he is a prisoner
in a roving mobile cage
he certainly cannot turn around
as we can turn a page
he is trapped which is unnerving
for he can see so much
the green fields over yonder
but of course he cannot touch

his mothers milk is not for him
it was made for him but he
is not about to drink it
humans get to see
more of it than any calf
he is mean’t for veal
three months in this fucking cage
thats his life for real

the farmer who employs this method
what I think of you
is you are pain in all our arses
to contemplate and do
this to any baby calf
who needs nutrition but
of course you have a better idea
keep the wired cage shut

when the grass is mowed down
move the cage and calf
a kind of open prison
in meaning a bout half
grass fed my god farmers
you play and others cry
profit what a way to earn it
really on a lie
