Lambs and the tail docking castration ear clipping machines

I have to say I felt sick watching
this machine at work
the operatives were automaton’s
and, in and around it they did lurk
man handling lambs onto the tray
staring at the sky
whilst various surgical steps
were undergone
it is no lie

tail docking, and castration ear punching
what we do
to babies little squealing souls
is we take the view
that they are really dead meat
they do not feel the pain
of having clumsy surgery
from those who are insane

and without anaesthetics
the shock must be intense
thrown off at the other end
to me it makes no sense
treating living breathing souls
like lumps of dead cold meat
to me it lacks compassion
its not sentient
we cheat

ourselves we cannot possibly
imagine how they feel
these are little babies
who really do conceal
the element of pain that’s there
they cry of course they do
what we do is torture them
and hurt them that’s my view

and the worst thing is we don’t care
no one cares a bit
the operatives are blaise
in them where does this sit
no where they are hopeless
numb to everything
performing operations
that clearly have to bring
shock into the picture
and off they go to cry
to suffer it gets no rougher
there’s real tears in every eye

but no tears for the operatives
its all matter of fact
piece work they’re on piece work
and the tails are clear;y stacked
up now on the grass for each to see
as they do run
squealing bleeding heeding
their moments in the sun

Farming on a big scale
is tantamount to abuse
there is no caring quality
the whole thing is so loose
operatives do what they like
they err and cut again
all this causes immense stress
and ongoing pain

man you are unkind
and really shouldn’t ever try
to injure lambs at piece work rates
and, do not deny
what you do is cruelty
to little lambs who are
as innocent as the day is long
and all you do is scar

scar their little bodies
break their little hearts
cut their tails off horribly
you are a bunch of farts

compassion and some thoughtfulness
should surface I should say
not all this abomination
this machine that does convey
hundreds through the process
costing them much pain
stress its for the taking
again and again and again.
