Galgo or Spanish Greyhound(how times have changed for this once noble hound)

Again Spain shows its colours
its not just Bulls that feel the pain
but the Galgo or Spanish Greyhound
Hare hunters and the bane
of their sad lives is clearly
how they are treated
holed up in some place
hardly ever any light
often damp and a disgrace
normally a dirty shack
so never sunlight on their back

bred without a thought or care
to run the countryside for Hare
as soon as the season ends
then they are deemed worthless
which sends
Hunters to the nearest tree
to hang their dogs
because that’s free
burn them
shoot them sometimes they
are then chucked in the garbage
slung in a well
to rot away
slung in their live
how they do pay
a few find shelters
but most are killed
as cheaply as possible
their blood is spilled
Spain again has no regard
for a breed of dog
that does work hard

How very sad it is today
that a dog as loyal
for that’s its way
when its seasons over
if gets it, and
probably doesn’t understand
the logic
who really can tell
this sad soul that
he lives in Hell
