Circus wild animals they were passed their sell by date before they started using them

No travelling circus
should have ever taken on
the role
of training the wild animals
for there’s been a heavy toll
in casualties and loss of freedom for
so many who were taken from their habitat
I’m sure

breaking them and using them
or abusing them is wrong
parading them in tinsel
that’s not where they belong
it never was
it was always wrong
and circus really does
ill treat them they can’t help it
there never is a buzz

carted here and carted there
and made to live in trucks
fed on god know what each day
really it just sucks
I mean such an upheaval
trucked from town to town
in all sorts of weathers
its bound to get them down

and then the tricks
a major deterioration
and demoralized of course
they were never designed
to do this
its not part of their source
and so its done with cruelty
down trodden they become
plagued by inflammation
and their feet are often numb

not enough activity
quiescent and alone
listlessness apparent
for the seeds that have been sown
really in a quandary
really what they should do
it does become a stumbling block
that lots of people rue

and there are lots of antagonists
who feel and see their pain
their boredom and their unwillingness
to just do things again
almost a defiance
which is often met with pain
a bull hook on an arthritic leg
and so much stress and strain

but elephants do not forget
they will hold that memory
and one day that sad trainer
will pay for it, he’ll be
trodden on or belted with a trunk
and serve him right
and then of course its more
abuse for everyone to fight

Circus is not for animals
and those wild cats and bears
how they ever got permission
to use them really scares
the daylights out of me
they’re unsubmissive after all
and some can be recalcitrant
which they ought to be

the noise of the arena
the band playing so loud
the sawdust and the grease paint
and feeling really soured
wretchedness comes often
adversity does too
the animals a hapless
when they don’t know
what to do

the Government has listened
and prepares to ban the use
clearly watching video’s
they see the vile abuse
it mentally affects them
they realise the pain
the wild one’s suffer
and it gets tougher
with very little gain

circus is passed its sell by date
the toffee apple craze
the candy floss the burgers
there is not that much trade
and travelling is laborious
and its hard to keep things clean
and the animals get impatient
and the trainers just get mean

everyone feels pressure
trying to cut the cost
and clearly the wild animals
the voiceless one’s are lost
their food may not be all that fresh
their bedding all that clean
and all this rough and tumble
is not part of their scene

so the fact that governments are looking
to put an end to this
is something really that’s long overdue
and most around won’t miss
