What I saw in Ashridge today

The crimson holly berries
the golden bracken stems
Willows greenest pillows
Birch leaves look like gems
cascading and revealing
the joy of partnering wind
the lovely dance of Autumn
how Nature’s underpinned
it all, with true reflection
a simple forest scene
Ashridge looked resplendent
And Each day, this week I’ve been
observing how the colours
and light festoon and say
to anybody’s eyes that notice
Winter’s on its way

in the darkly hollows
where rain had fallen fast
Rooks, were basically washing
clearly they aghast
at how warm, the sun had made it
and so they played away
water splashing everywhere
a right old true display
of who cares
no ones watching
they did not, account for me
I’d been parked there for
3 hours
part of the scenery
so they showed me what they get
up to
when they have the where for all
I could see that Rooks
like most of us
also have a ball
