More on the Ghan

The Ghan takes on
a ourney of significance
from Adelaide
through Port Pirie
Port Augusta
Coober Pedy
Opal country
onto the Moon Plain
an area of moon like
desolation
windy but protected by the train
through the Painted Desert
or the Arckaringa Hills
a blue sky as a backdrop
for the myriad of thrills
the oranges, the crimson, the purples
and the blue
images of beauty
in almost every hue
onto the Palm Valley
where those cabbage palms
do grow
Now popular in the Isle of Man
but killed by frost and snow
Onto Alice Springs
and the Macdonnell ranges
the centre of Australia
we’re here
in the land of the ” aranda”
the indiegenous ones
who kept this area going
with their cheer
Until the Telegraph turned up
to publicize
Alice just 2 hours from Uluru
I never thought it worth my while
to see the great red ediface
for to climb it was something I’d never do
Too much we’ve taken from the aboriginie
And this sacred site of there’s
we must not climb
to look to see its wonder
and its wondrous colouration
but that is all
Let it be there for all time
