“Connie”

Lying in the rubble
just off a busy street
A little puppy motionless
Nobody to greet
We took her to the hospital
Gave her medicine for her pain
Tried to pick her up
But she was bellowing a refrain
A neck wound clearly painful
Clearly ultra sore
We bandaged her and we comforted
Her
it had clearly reached her core
We did this several days
And she was perky gradually
Getting better every day
As everyone could see
Had she laid their sadly
For a few more days maybe
She would have reached the
Rainbow bridge
But now we all could see
She was ready to take on
The bigger dogs
Around our yard
A proper little bruiser
Always on her guard
A runt of the littler
Discarded maybe so
But now she romped
And bumped and jumped
As her confidence did grow
