The dog from Udaipur

In the Aravalli ranges
Of Rajastan they found
A little dog soaked in hot tar
Just lying on the ground
In Udaipur city of Lakes
Wide eyed but so forlorn
Clearly the tar was baking dry
And he wished he had not been born

He was more a living statue
Unable to move
Stuck fast smelling terribly
Just not in the groove
Laying really waiting
For death to come and take
Him wherever that was
His last journey
As his heart did break

And then out of the blue
Animal aid was on his case
Dedicated carers
Angels a sweet race
Of beings sent to aid him
Love him and so care
With vegetable oil
And hours of work
And their patience to share

How could that dog have imagined
He would have to die
Nobody could help him now
Would anyone ever try
Too far gone and soaked up
With what is a violent mess
Could anyone would anyone relieve
Him of his stress

The universe has people
Many live around
Some are good some are bad
He was just a hound
A stray that walked the dusty streets
Would anybody care
They came a lovely bunch of souls
All clearly so aware

Anointing him with vegetable oil
A safer means to clean
And love and care in abundance
Building up a sheen
Removing as they went along
Using their tips to roll
Little balls of it away
And continue to console

His eyes looked to the heavens
So caked up in this stuff
He was in a kind of bubble
Clearly had had enough
But new hope was forthcoming
Their soft hands on his soul
They were gentle they lovely
Always in control

Not hurting or squeezing nothing
Like that just massage soft
Nerve endings muscles every part
Like a floating aloft
On clouds of blue in heaven
That was how he felt
With angels all around him
As close to him they knelt

The sensation of creation
The relation of it all
His sixth sense saw salvation
A satisfying call
Distress had been his enemy
Adversity his pain
The agony of a slow death
Where life was just in vain

He had felt like a furnace
And now felt as chill
Shock was clearly on his mind
He certainly had had his fill
The melody and magic as parts of him were
Clean
And massaged very gently
He was not a machine

But a very sensitive fellow
With a fur that did look good
But luminaries were with him
Doing all they could
To give him back some dignity
Some honour through their care
To bring him back to reality
And make him so aware

Some humans do love animals
Other its true do not
He was very fortunate
Because he was loved a lot
Hours and hours of gentleness
Of pondering and care
Of thoughtfulness and contemplation
For him lying there

Near to the Gujarat border
A lovely place to be
Where if he did get well again
The sights and sounds could see
The vegetable oil was removing
The deadly awful tar
Leaving his skin feeling wonderful
And it all came from a jar

With diligence and attentiveness
Thoroughness and probity
Watchfulness and alertness
They were able to be
Certain of their methods
And a lasting recovery
