Mehdigan in Uttar Pradesh India

In a village lost in swirling mists
stands coca cola’s place
taking vast amounts of water
which is a disgrace
for the local people
are not allowed
to drill as far below
and many of their wells
are dry
which is a rotten show
it take 7 to 10 litres of water
to make 1 litre of coke
this permutation
really has to be a joke
and the effluent from the process
is toxic to be sure
and was being dumped around the plant
and you may ask what for?
what it did for the environment
and for public health as well
and when it made their animals sick
this new waste straight from Hell
chromium and cadmium and lead a vile cocktail
it is going somewhere still
but that’s another tale

they were selling it to the farmers
as a fertiliser, they
soon realised it killed their plants
corruption was away
with the birds so sadly
compromised were they
into being fooled in fact
and being made to pay

now its being dumped elsewhere
but nobody is sure
but the water levels all about
are low and what is more
many wells have dried up
and there’s pressure on them all
not that coca cola cares
they have their unending call

on water at a greater depth
which really is a shame
because what in point of fact is waste
is toxic people claim
of course the corporation
cite’s wages and employment
but conditions there are horrible
and the wages are so low
and the wider environment is clearly
really suffering
and the government should really
tell the factory to go

the Indian Parliament actually has banned
the sale of soda’s in its cafeteria
it clearly knows the gist
and clearly samples taken
have also contained Lindane
so really things are negative
and thats a tragic twist

to what is really happening
to the people of the village
they are suffering enormously
from the water problem they
have to wash, to drink, to use
its something everyone would choose
not to have this problem
getting more serious by the day
and knowing a great factory
is turning potable water
into toxic sludge
what can one say!

and dumping it around the place
and clearly they dont budge
rearly this is not on
internationally we need
to back these people to the hilt
and help them to succeed
for everyone on earth should and needs
water
and no vast corporate should ever have the right
to come into a village and usurp the peoples lifes blood
share by all means but create a blight

NEVER in a month of sundays!
