The Seagulls

Birds that have made their home
Near to the sea
Are called gulls and they
Possess a state of wonder
I admire them anyway
In Brighton on the South coast
East Sussex one might see
Various types of Sea gull
Who live there and who be

True to themselves
Communal they are sharing
On that they
Have every right to enjoy
Their lives
And so do so everyday

They are intelligent
And adaptable
They can live for twenty years
They pair up living together
Yes they have their fears
But are altogether protective
Of each other and they will
Eat fish and molluscs and eggs and insects
And anything we spill

At night they sleep down on the beach
On calm water sometimes too
On dunes on sandbars in open spaces
On the look out it is true
For the falcons and Hawks
Who might attack them
They are wizards in the air
Where there are humans
Gulls will come
They are really are aware

They have a rousing aura
Their rapturous displays
They share food and it’s whereabouts
With their raucous ways
Some may call them vermin
But they are wild birds
And they
with some exhilaration
Are Euphoric I can say

At Brighton lots of people
Eat their take aways
Often see the sky borne souls
Attracted there most days
An easy steal a bag of chips
A cake who knows, they might
Swoop down and take heed of it
Believing it’s their right.
