Eliza Cook 1818-1889

seventy one years
In London Town
A poet this lass she
Part of the chartrist movement
It was levelling up, you see
The working class adored her
She fought for women she
Played with words like nobody else
Writing beautifully.

Simple effusions
Of gratification
She appealed to the masses
Her descriptions
Prescriptions
Of joy
Glorious stories
Down to earth stanzas
Tributes of floral
Marvellously choral
Most women loved her
I love her too
A women of substance
Each Poem writ true.

Many editions
Attractively bound
In leather
In block
Each does astound
An amorous aptitude
A caring a sharing
Cleverly written
Each poem smitten
That’s what I’ve found.
