Zoo animals are prisoners

Evidence of torture
a big Gorilla’s hand
pushed through
the cage,
her tired old fingers
dry and pained
an age
bruised and torn
but not from natural
habitat, sweet soul
imprisoned and what
do you think of that
her only role
is sitting in her cage
and being gawped at
stolen from her home
her babies dead
left behind without
their precious mother
thats the thoughts
she has now in her head

grief her feelings adamant
the cruelty
human beings haven’t got a clue
human intervention in her life
has been so terrible
this primate
really knows not what to do

she was better off in Africa
than in a rusty cage
in pouring rain
that look in vain
she’ll be here for an age
alone, no one to talk to
no one to share her woe
just a crowd of ignorant humans
who do not want to know

Zoo’s must really begin to think
about their charges, they
should leave the poor souls
in the forest or wherever
let them stay
where they were
not ship them into far off zoo’s
and cage them up like prisoners
and then of course refuse

to accept that what they are doing
is against the creature, who
was far off better where they were
doing what they always do
