“Antonio”

We heard a dog was ailing
In a leafy suburb where
In amongst the roses
Clearly his despair
Was obvious when we saw him
Quietly lying there
Clearly very uncomfortable
We were so aware

We brought a trap
and cushion and managed to get a lead
Around his neck and carried him
So we could succeed
In taking him to Dr Pedraza
The veterinary
Hope for paws our service
And now that is where we be

After examination no fractures
But alas
There was internal bleeding
His spleen damaged
As crass
as ever someone clearly
Had kicked him very hard
And he was really suffering
Clearly he was scarred
For life and in so many ways
Human beings they
Are unconscious to the damage
And the profound dismay

The little red dog charity
