Whether we end up in a temple
Sanctuary or zoo
Makes a great deal of difference
Or in a sea park too
Really human beings
Are kindly but they can
Be cruel and even beastly
Dependent on their plan
A temple tends to abuse us
Regalia wise we are
Painted dripped in ornamentation
Our bodies too they scar
The bull hook often used on us
Our feet too get worn down
Giving rides to tourists
On the roads into town
Ansanctuary is heavenly
Generally we see
A place where we can share
Each interlude quite peacefully
Apparently our haven
Where it’s humbling to be
Wrapped up in the kindness
Of a true community
A zoo mostly there is indifference
For sadly there they
Are into making money
They lack some zeal I have to say
No appetite for true love
This is a business scene
Profit and loss
Don’t care a toss
And really they are mean
With food and with enclosures
With habitat and more
It’s the same with game parks
With cars and trucks galore
Pollution from exhausts
Play havoc with our health
Being fed on human trash
Compromising wealth
The unwariness of visitors
Their presumption that we be
Unlikely to attack them
That audacity
Often leads to mishaps
Car windows open they
Wonder why we are drawn to them
To their aura so to say
We rarely feel affection
From the keepers let me say
Often we are having to take
Pills and potions they
Unsettle us it’s no exaggeration
Every day
They give us so called tonics
And pills along the way
Living wild was wonderful
Captives understand
Prisoners despondency
Resigned to a life bland
And hopeless and it’s cheerless
In a zoo that needs to make
Money balancing its books
Really it’s a fake
Rides and photo sessions
Petting sometimes too
Taking away our babies
It’s what some zoo’s do
It’s tastelessness and vulgarity
But they don’t see that, they
Are into making money
And that’s done any way
Wildness has its beauty
As for captivity
It’s colourless and staleness
Banal and dreary
Life drags by each day
It’s uniformity
Humdrum and surburban
We are ancient history
The elation of discovery
The exultation we
Feel when we are free to go
Free in fact to see
Our path ahead to water
To mud to forest where
Growing leaves are present
As is the fresh warm air
Leave us where creation puts us
Try to not encroach upon
Where we live and make our homes
Fences roads and walls
Be gone
Large open spaces jungle
Our needs are met to be
Where creation placed us
Not where you humans be
