Residential schools

Contemptuousness and despisedness
A paltriness of mind
For governments to do this
So terribly unkind
The indignity of breaking up
Families in this way
Of weaning them from ancestors
And making the children pay

In America in Canada in Australia
We saw
The outrageous and insulting
And all within the law
Such arrogance such unadulteration
To a cause
The wounded hearts and minds
Where nobody did pause

Taking up the innocent
The children the disgrace
Witnessing the elders now
The deep lines on their face
The terrible neglect and hatred
That they clearly did feel
The webbed strap on their buttocks
That time cannot conceal

To have lived through this great vileness
To have suffered all that pain
Taken from one’s parents
That Some would never see again
Rooting out their culture
Dismissing it as vile
Being taken advantage of
With all the incredulous bile

Their innocence their consciences
All free of any blame
But treated just like criminals
Bu those clearly insane
Hearts of iron loose morals
Unworthiness to be
Sinfulness and ungoldliness
And dark depravity

The indigenous have suffered
Such immorality
Nefarious those teachers
On the abandoned and worthy
Brutalized and corrupted
By the governments of the day
Who were wicked as the days were long
And my hope is they will pay

Unregretting and obdurate
Hopeless such despair
That they really had no regrets
For the evil they did share
Such grossness and such nastiness
And terrible indecency
To other peoples angels
Such filthiness and indelicacy

Tongues pulled out and pinched
Tortured that they were
Hair cuts for young warriors
Clearly to refer
Immodest and so brazen
Such violations they
Were criminalized and beaten
Some yes everyday

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The indigenous people
Were the angels the protectors
The guardians yet were treated
Like enemies of the state
There can be no forgiveness
For the arrogance displayed
By the authorities NOT NOW NOT EVER
