Kneejerk legislation
Crafted by those grey suits who
Listened to the media
But were not sure what to do
Brought in the breed specific
Which is to say the least unfair
And lends itself to much abuse
By humans who don’t care

The canine tribe are many
All shapes and sizes, they
Haven’t changed an awful lot
Its the public that should pay
More attention to the problem
For any dog can be
Dangerous in the wrong hands
Open your eyes and see

What has duly happened
Is the animals that look
What is perceived to be dangerous
And really thats the hook
For legislators points of interest
When actually we know
That irresponsible owners
Have a long long way to go

They make them look aggressive
They call them aggressive names
Feeding tHem on raw meat and such
Make all sorts of claims
Some make them fight
Its what you do
When you have no idea
The repercussions likely
And the public’s general fear

What constitutes a dangerous dog
Is not a particular breed
That is too simplistic
And of course is going to feed
Into the simple aggression
Of the owners round a bout
And due to their aggression
The poor dogs left in doubt

breed specific legislation
Is amazingly unfair
Dogs are loyal behind the law
We have to be aware
Who attempts to buy these dogs
For kudos or for what
Bloody great chains and leather
These dogs just are not

Fighting machines and macho gifts
They are animals that will
Be loyal and kind and do
Blow your mind
But your blood they will only spill
If you take malice towards them
If you abuse their trust
If you treat them badly
And hurt them and fill them with disgust

BSL is legislation that needs re writing fast
It needs to address the owners
For I for one am aghast
At the numbers that reach rescue
Who are on the dangerous list
Its clear they are with aggressive owners
Who like to show a fist

As this picture says we haven’t changed
We are still of the canine clan
We will respond to you if you are fond of us
So why would you ban
Any dog can be dangerous
Responsibility and an attitude of caring
Is what we have to see

In place not daft legislation
Drawn up by those
Who knew
Very little about the dogs
And really what they do
How they got in the wrong hands
And became an aggressive tool
Not out of choice but on the voice
Of a really aggressive fool
