Agent Orange re-visted

Vietnam realised just how obnoxious
the herbicide dropped on them was
over and over and again and again
this deluge, and it was because
the forests were precious
to all of us
we lived there
we ate there
our life
was inside the forest
a great massive life form
and raining down
came so much strife

Imagine how deadly
a cocktail it was
to destroy all of nature around
with vile implications
for people, all people
who entered that poisonous ground
Agent Orange the yanks went and called it
from the drums it was packed in, for they
had bloody great stripes on them, yes orange stripes
Agent Orange was born from that day
the vilest of mixtures
the cruelest of sprays
at the processing stage
it took on a new phase
synergy too held and so it became
a grief loaded cocktail
bound to inflame
13 times stronger than it should have been
and of course very lethal
to any green scene
Monsanto and Dow
must ask themselves how
they knowingly let this go on
The US defence where was its sense
this evil was falling upon

the enemy so called, civilians
their own soldiers down on the ground
and still to this day
in Brazil I’ve heard say
the forests are now being drowned
they were innocent souls
living in holes
fighting to bring up their families
like you
whilst down from the skies came this
evil, this frighteningly
terrible brew
those that lived in the forest
took care of the place
what you went and did, was a bloody disgrace!
you took them all out
with your potion of death
and they died or were maimed
and left fighting for breath

the jungle and all the life in it began
to rot, for this dire cocktail
part of your plan
to cast out the enemy
and you seemed set
to do this in any way
and the world let
you do it, and since then some
have looked away
as people fell dead, or withered away
miscarriages, still births, and deformity
that is the picture that mothers did see
many were born when
there wasn’t a war
many don’t know what the
long war was for
many didn’t care
they loved life, and they
just wanted to live
in peace everyday

returning soldiers back to the US
many were sick from the chemical stress
they too denied
and were lied
to, and they
tragically, for them
some, passed away
their wives have
seen vile deformity too
but the US refused to accept
it was true
the chemical companies
Monsanto and Dow
and everyone living
is asking them how
can you sleep at night
you must be able to hear
the agonised cries
of the mothers in fear

the mothers whose babies
were dead in their womb
9 months of hell
and their womb was a tomb
the mothers who looked
at their new born, and saw
a monster that somehow
was caused by the war
the greif and the shock
it was too much for some
and they wandered away
and would always feel numb
they will cry in the night
they will bleed from their soul
knowing their enemy
stooped to control

tore out their hearts
and their minds
they bereft
their spirit their life force
no nothing is left
just the tear drops that fall
from the thousands of eyes
and the blood that seeps slowly
from thousands of thighs
if this is humanity
is this what we
have achieved
all these aeons
then, it should not be
