The chase is on

Imagine being in the forest
After midnight in the cold
Eyes are staring
No ones sharing
And you are feeling old
The odd deer peers from behind a tree
A fox’s eyes look red
Badgers comfy in their sett
Many under fed

Boxing Day tomorrow
The huntsmen feeling brave
Getting up at the crack of Dawn
They are going to save
The frosty air
The forest dark
After the foxy foe
The hounds are drooling off the leash
All Wanting to go

After the Red Devil
Wild and trim and bold
Watch the breath evaporate
In the bitter cold
A scampering heart a beating
Hearing the yelping he
The courage of the lonely fox
With a want to just be free

Loads of galloping horseman
The crackle of frost hard grey
Chasing hearts a racing
A fence is in the way
Leap an air of what’s possible
The fox has disappeared
Through the browning bracken
That the season has now cleared

The Hunters after glory
A brief pickling by
A tankard of apple cider
And possibly too much pie
A rather giant Turkey leg
Stuffing and the rest
The poor old horse accepts the charge
In essence has confessed

To have to carry
These old farts
Sealed in jodhpurs
Soft and tight
Bumping up and down this morning
It never is a true delight
Animal rights are in full sway
The wily fox has run away
The horses know
Their breathless flow
It’s taking it’s toll on their ailing might.
