Alone in the forest

On one’s own
In the forest
Where Deer like to run
Some have a gallop
When the day is done
A Doe in her splendour
Like a dark shadow she
May just about come down to feed
Real quietly
Some consternation
Remarkably she
May not be suspicious
But her mate
He might be
A wide antlered soul
Protective of her
Ears pricked and cautious
Wanting to concur
Easily frightened
Hearing a crack
He will be off like a rocket
And won’t want to come back
