Zoo,’s are animal prisons
Caged up cruelty
Cancelling out the wonder
Irreverence totally
They lose their state of wonderment
The phenomenon of life
What’s overwhelmingly wonderful
And in stead fed So much strife
A gorilla locked in a concrete pit
Given a branch to hold
Gorilla’s live in underbrush
In the Congo I am told
Beautifully, socially active
Mysterious and bold
This soul is trapped
It’s impossible
To be socially active here
Alone and very despondent
Living in much fear
A wonderful brain and sensitive
To the life around his soul
But stuck in a prison of rocks
He can never be in control
He uses the branch to try and climb
Wonder for him is there
His brain is working overtime
Despite so much despair
He experiences blankness
An indifference of course
He has an imagination
It’s there it’s at the source
But Zoos are unimaginative
Robotic and artificial
Keepers what do they know
Most are prejudicial
Ignorant and arrogant
They take the thought away
That the wild soul is incredible
And is hopeful every day
He wants to escape the boredom
The prison state he feels
He is wholly innocent
Freedom it appeals
It’s humbling to sit around
Thinking everyday
Resigned to sitting on one’s arse
With no where you can play
Being fed whatever
No companionship at all
Nothing around of interest
No stimulus a wall
10 feet tall above you
It’s not that you can fly
Stuck on a ledge forever
Until the day you die.
