Gorillas and children

Gorillas and children
Zoo’s everywhere
Cages for ages
Where actual despair
Is farmed out and daily
Insincerity
A worthless life
Abject venality

Children can Cosy up
Get near and see
Families of great apes
Disinterestedly
Abject and shabby
Disparaged and sad
Fed on zoo shit
And all looking bad

And the children see great apes
Dejected. They be
Their babies are ragged
It’s a tragedy
Fed on rotten cabbage
Wildness is gone
Wilful neglect
I cry when they don

Sadness their faces
Tears everywhere
Unfitting and unwarranted
No one to care
Zoos are just prisons
Great apes they be
The living stock
Who will never be free
To love and to live and to
Climb and to see
Zoo’s are for sinners
So forbearing they be
