Humanity and the Fish

Commercial fishing
Lacks all feeling
By catch is a waste
The antipathy of consumption
Really must be faced
Fish caught in great masses
Net loads scooped at sea
Creatures with a neuronal system
Know fear it seems to me

They know joy when they see it
And of course pain as well
Watch them wriggle
Watch them squirm
Hooks for them are HELL
Injuring their lips and jaws
And bodies you can say
Damages them and hurts them
In every single way

Fishes do have memories
Of circumstances, they
Netted gaffed and frozen
And gutted it’s no way
To treat these beautiful creatures
Torn out of the sea
Packed in ice and beaten
Their feelings have to be

Respected all the handling
On board in the extreme
The course fishermen
Who hooks the fish
And in a creel doth seem
To not realise the agony
The lack of genuine air
Thrown back after perhaps a day
Fish are, really aware

It’s frightening it’s painful
Shock elements are there
See how you’d feel
Bleeding from the mouth
You’d be aware
And fish are very sensitive
Men though tragically
Think only of their guts
And care little actually

Yes fish do have feelings
Emotions yes they cry
Looking back as they are hauled
Up towards the sky
Thousands of their breathren
Also being caught
It creates a sadness
And a very perilous thought.
