Christmas Day

I was up at the crack of Dawn
Writing away
I shall be alone
But I will be ok
It’s pretty still
Low down anyway
I have done a few chores
The old sky is grey

Not many cars about
Lots stay put, they
Lay in and rest
Mums I guess, work away
My mum passed years ago
It is a time
Spent with our families
Mine spent with a rhyme

I am going to cat sit
Something to do
Shops are all closed
Not even a few open
A good thing
People can rest
Eat too much probably
Whatever is best

I think now of Palestine
Of the people there
Whose families murdered
So much despair
Hatred is evident
What it must be
Losing wives losing parents
And friends, destiny
Paid for, and lost
In explosions and more
In Gaza The West Bank
The worst kind of war

It sickens me so
Loved ones blown in the air
Crushed by the bombs
Where is the care
The love, the respect
For animals too
Who are murdered in cold blood
This factor is true

I have made up the fire
Washed up pots from last night
Wrote a few poems
That’s my delight
It’s a very quiet time
For me I can say
Might be my last Christmas
