It all goes back to years ago
A folk tale so I’m told
Some bloke who carried a carved out turnip
With glowing coals of old
Wandering in the afterlife
The jack o lantern came
Stingy jack
Who tricked the devil
Apparently the same
Hence we use the pumpkin
And carve fearful faces
There upon
It’s all tied up with Samhain
The end of Summer, summer gone
And souls that died
And those before
Travel back in time
Visit our homes
When the veil is thin
To communicate in rhyme
What to do with the pumpkins
Eat them
They are good
Ninety per cent water
In the compost would be good
Don’t throw them in the forest
With candle grease and stuff
That may sicken the wild souls
And their life’s already tough
Vitamin A and C and E
So eat the flesh
Or you
Can scoop it out and compost it
And use the skin it’s true
Cover it with cloth and
You have a vegan bowl
Put your sweets inside for YULE
There another role.
