Lough Neagh

This massive lake
The biggest actually in the whole UK
Home to Eels that live and die
And apparently do pay
A high price for their want to be
Calling it where they
Take up residence
A massive business in catching them
They say

Farming is creating massive pollution and
Muck and phosphates used it seems
On the farming land
Nitrates and phosphate causing
A hypertrophic state
An oxygen depletion
Really from the date
Thirty years has seen a rise
With surface scum around
Some seventy per cent more pollution
In 30 years they have found

The farmers deny the need to stop
As to the great EU
It’s still within their limits
And they maintain the view
That pollution is not the problem
That some believe it to be
Though locally dogs are dying
After drinking it
A plea
from owners that its serious
But few wanting to hear
A lot of fish frequent this lake
Though there are problems that is clear

151 square miles max depth 82 feet
Averaging at 30
Lots of fish are dying
And animals are dropping dead
Someone out there’s lying

Fertiliser and animal waste
Is increasing every year
The homeopathic principle
Brings more risks its clear
The danger of the minimum dose
A factor most won’t see
But clearly it is rumbling
Into a constancy
