Being off colour

Buying a tent

and taking it down

we saw several

toads

They  were not green or brown

black as the night owls

black as the sky

They were  under the ground sheet

where they did rely

on no light to speak of

and slugs by the tonne

at their beck

and call

So plenty of fun

but it changed their skin colour

marvellously so

as black as pure jet

and quite a show

as the ground sheet was lifted

and the tent laid out flat

the toads skipped a beat

knowing where they were at

under the light and an afternoon sky

Their skin  colour change

The reason  why

exuding confidence

tiny wee toads

hopped out of the light

to different abodes

to a bell tent where they

collectively squeezed

from the light of the day

one by one  they teased

their bodies

Under the ground sheet

And they

Were back in their slug store

in the dark of the day.
