My birthday

79 years ago today

a bouncing baby boy

A ray

of light for his dear mother  who

wanted a girl

as mothers do

swaddling clothes

the colour pink

the Airnraid sirens on the blink

And no cradle  sadly

just a sink

Buzz bombs

going overhead

mum and dad both Fireman led

putting out fires

where bombs had dropped

born at home

then out I Popped

black out curtains

ration books

fairy cakes

my mummy cooks

smoke and mirrors everywhere

bombed our houses

its not fair.
