Zoo’s in Malta

Criminals go to prison
Locked up for their crime
Animals go to zoo’s
And their we steal their time
They have shorter life spans
But lock them up we do
Human beings are wretched
That much I know is true

Running a business and wanting
To make a profit from
Stocking many animals
For them it’s a maelstrom
A caged off concrete area
Far removed for life
Stared at by the visitors
Who of course share the strife

Stolen from their families
Stolen everyone
Taken from the jungle
And really left upon
Often other continents
Where Ice and snow may fall
Born out of the tropics
And now behind some wall

To shiver in the winter
Be fed on frozen scraps
You lose your worldly vision
And the zoo just slaps
Falsity and folly
On you everyday
And you become retarded
Backward in every way

Born to forage
Born to catch
Born to wander
And to hatch out your plans
And everyday
Live your life the natural way
But stuck in here
In Malta we
Go mad and madder
Eventually.

No fish to catch
No tree to scratch
No berries raw
No grassy floor
No stars above
No one to love
Just loneliness
And so much stress
