The magickal RUE

Healing women knew it’s cleansing
Properties and they
Mixed home grown Rue with Spring water
To take a jinx away
To also invite the peaceful
Vibrations to a place
Where poetry or spells are sought
It’s magic to embrace

A bag above the front door
Avoids the evil eye.
It’s really a good protection herb
The Italians they know why
The sprig of rue or Cimaruta
An amulet of fame
Raise the drawbridge
Batten down the hatches
The very same

Another name is Witchbane
And Pliny long ago
Referred the artist with sore eyes
To the RUE for he did know
It’s soothing healing properties
Which could extend one’s sight
A herb that exists on poorer soils
And sand is it’s delight.

Placed over the third eye
Psychic ability may actually
Improve a lot with a freedom seemingly
Avoid touching the leaves though
It can adversely harm
The sensitive a point to note
No matter how calm
Cats are far from keen on it
They so dislike it’s smell
There is a Peculiar scent about it
And probably that’s well
The word stems from the Greek
RUEA meaning to free
Combating nervous indigestion
As such the remedy
Chewing the leaves for headache
Apparently work well
Such an aromatic flavour
But bitter I hear tell

In times gone by the yokels
Might boil the leaves and add
treacle
And make sweet conserve considered
To be not bad
It is a hardy evergreen
It’s leaves are bluish green
Greenish yellow flowers
Emerge and from June to September seen
