“Lilly”

The tiniest of puppies
just lying by a box
Whimpering and crying
Just so many shocks
Going through her little body
The unjustifiability
The world at large ignoring
Nobody did see
Going about their own business
A mortal in distress
Was it just a piece of rag
Or something just worth less

They called the baby “Lilly”
A beautiful little soul
Her legs were sore and damaged
She had lost any control
Close to leaving her body
Dehydrated and alone
Her Bowels were next to useless
And from time to time she would groan
a cry for someone somewhere
To hear her tiny voice
We found her and we gave her
Yes gave her the choice
IV fluids catheter
All night, it was touch and go
Whether she had given up
Or had really got so low
But a little bit of love and care
It just goes a long way
And she actually responded
On what was our lucky day

Lots of love and kisses
Real deep profound care
Our ladies in their sari’s
What abundance we have we share
Rajasthan has angels
And need is there as we
Suffer little children
Who come to us to see

She rallied and recovered
She wanted life she did
Her floppy ears her inner tears
She made that honest bid
To stay with us
To feel our love
And we have much to give
We know what it’s like
To be so alone
But so wanting to live

And now with her tail wagging
She runs about the place
Clearly so much stronger
But with a deal of grace
Everybody loves her
Everybody cares
And everybody knows in fact
That a great god heard our prayers.
