“Heidi”

A very busy street in town
In a disabled parking bay
A very hesitant rather mangy
Dog came by to pay
Her dubious respect to us
And to her we did say
She had been in the neighbourhood
For months Yes every day
But her mangy look had frightened
Some
and they chased her away
In dread
Of what might be contagious
Some people do not know
How mange affects the skin
And really just how low
It makes one feel
It’s all about neglect
And being without care
With No routine to speak of
And people unaware

Parasitic mites
Démodétic do take hold
Causing lesions
And infections
And hair loss
All this rolled
Into what is street life
Constant stress and strain
People shouting at you
And sitting in the rain
All of this uncertainty
Causes problems and
This poor dog was suffering
And didn’t look too grand

But deep down had a heart and soul
And wanted Love to be
Surrounding her in bones and baskets
For an eternity
And, so when the angels
Came along honestly she felt
They were giving her treats to eat
Perhaps her cards were dealt
And soon she was inside a car
And going to the vet
Curious and tentative
SHe just wanted to let
Them help her quite a pungent smell
Of dirt and mange and woe
So to get some soapy water
On her really it did show
Up just how infected
SHe was and just how sore
We had to shave the hair away
More and more and more
And use the medication to rub into her skin
And kill the mites and cure the bites
And actually start to win.

We did this for many days
Till the mange and mites Were gone
She loved to rest up in her basket
Or would sit upon
any seat around the place
She had freedom to choose
Nobody shouted at her
Life now was good news
“Heidi” had recovered well
An unshakable regard
With a sharpness and an acumen
Life now wasn’t hard
She felt part of a family
WitH expectations she
Was staying with another dog
And a family
“Bruno” was her playmate
An older dog but he
Was keen to play
And seemed to really get on with Heidi

Day 60 she was spayed
Had all her check ups and she now
Is really fit and hopeful
And forever home and how
She will fit in dear “Heidi”

She so Wants a family
If anyone
knows someone who wants a dog
For adoption now she be

Ready and waiting
