“Whisper”

A pool of blood
That’s ominous
Oozing from her nose
A phantom shriek
And whimpering
In agony I suppose
Giving up each as each moment passes
This is what you do
When faced with the inevitable
And no one has a clue

A bitch with all her life
Behind her
Neglected and alone
The good thoughts had all left her
Her heart felt like a stone
We found her
Wrapped her in our blanket
And carried back to
The ambulance
And the happy face
Of our angel crew

She was clearly close to going over
The other side was beckoning her
And she
Wasn’t conscious
Maybe a brain injury
IV fluids
Brought her back
To be
Paddled whimpered
Where was she
Still here ready so to be
Healed
That’s what we do all day
Save the lost souls
In every way

Day three she couldn’t eat a thing
Couldn’t lift her head to bring
So We persist syringe and all
By Day 5 she answered the call
And she could eat
More kisses we
Gave her, cuddled her
So happy
Wagging her tail
Staring us down
The most beautiful soul
In all the town.
