“Connie”

Children were playing
The roadside was noisy
And there at the foot of a wall
Was “Connie” a puppy
Injured and still
Possibly had a big fall

Someone had given her a blanket
And there she was laying
Asleep
The noise of the roadside
The pain she was feeling
Death with his sickle
Did creep
Closer and closer to Connie
That much we realised she
Didn’t have much time
Just lying there
So we took her to hospital
To see

She had a deep wound on her neck
Which had festered
And clearly could not walk at all
We gave her painkillers
And washed the deep wound
And applied a clean dressing
To crawl

Even was not something she was doing
Clearly she had lots of pain
A tiny baby without its mummy
No one to learn from
‘‘Twas plain

Just a few weeks later
Connie was playing
Healed with our duty and care
Though very small
Seemed to think she was tall
And took on the bigger pups there

Free as a bird she was joyful
And loving
A sweet little girl
That she was
Now she is after a forever home
And Already has found one

Because

She is full of herself
