The stags of Woburn

Someone had a bright idea
Call it culling if you will
For me a wandering poet
For me really its just to kill
To murder to assassinate
A perfectly healthy soul
£9000 for a handsome stag
Whose antlers gave him soul

And in that role of stag supreme
A £9000 tag is set
For smaller less endowed deer
£3000 and they will let
You shoot perhaps a female
If you dont have enough dosh
This is trophy hunting
The excuses do not wash

Woburn might have a deer park
A big house maybe so
But this piece of misjudgement
Will cost them this I know
Importing the dirty trophy hunting
Process over here
Just to make some money
For me its far from clear

Ethic is important
And animals should be
Afforded some protection from the hunters
And my plea
Just by having the money
Death is up for grabs
Woburn really honestly
Bodies now on slabs?

Venison for the locals
All clamouring to buy
One Shot by the trophy hunters
Who had the cash to ply
Their sick demented pastimes
As fine stags hit the dust
And Woburn makes a killing
And it all sounds just

Matter of fact
And commercially sound
Its management gone wrong
The balance of probabilty
A sheet that must be wrong
Profit without a prophet
Thats the business here
A day out at the safari park
And dont tell me its too dear
