Dugongs and turtles

23 million people
Live in Australia
1 million of them hunters
It appears
Almost 6 million firearms
Rifles and shot guns
All of these and bows
Would raise my fears

Being a wild kangaroo
Or dingo
Lots of introduced
Creatures now though
Rabbits hares and foxes
Cats and pigs and goats
Horses donkeys and deers
And feral cattle
Camels buffalo’s
So theres some tears

For lots of animals out
There
being shot at
The Roo
Chital
Sambar and fallow Deer
The Rusa the red deer
All get hunted
Game birds in new south wales
When they appear

Native title and native rights
Are becoming
Difficult to quantify today
The dugong and the turtle
And abalone
Are being killed in quantities
And the dismay

Is growing among the
True conservationists
Who see that the endangered souls
Are there
Being bunted by the aboriginie
And now commercially
Which just isnt fair

Not so much for others in Australia
But the dugongs and the turtles
Under fire
Iconic in so many ways
But commercially
Its a malaise
For the dugongs and the turtles
It is dire

Fishing groups and green groups
And those who truly care
Want the aboriginie to live
And ofcourse to share
But these dogongs and these turtles
Are getting extra grief
Their numbers cannot stand the kills
There is really no relief

At this rate native rights
Where there is no tally seem
No one knows
Now just how endangered
And trying to redeem
The knowledge casts a shadow
That is darkening by the hour
Its nothing to do with prejudice
But its causing quite a row

Dugongs and turtles are being slaughtered
Into non existence and aboriginies must see this
And understand its for the sake of the animals
That people are pointing this out
