A noble soul the terrestial one
Looks very menacing in the sun
Likes to climb trees
But can be shy
Hibernates from May to August
Holds a rank thats high
There are a number of species
But Australia knows that they
Frequent its wild and rocky
Places
And have done so for many a day
Rock art from thousands of years before
Saw its fearsome glare
A hefty tail a tell tale tongue
And teeth to be aware
Aboriginies hunt them
And its been said that they
Can drag off sheep these predators
Who scavenge too some say
Into carrion poisonous snakes
The saliva a toxic threat
Clearly they do look formidable
And Some are big enough to get
People to raise their hackles
Some say their oil can be
Magical its healing properties
Apparently
Mirculous a cure all
Banjo wrote his poem
Johnsons antidote and we
Once seen seldom forget them
The water the lace the sand
They wear their badge of office
Their puffed up necks look grand
Freeborn and enfranchised
Unafilliated they
Walk the ancient red earth
Of the out back come what may
