Trump and the trophies

We know his sons are hunters
And elephants they have killed
No doubt the lobbying power is there
For all the blood thats spilled
Overstepping the mark though
Transgression of this type
It was a vile intrusion
A really ugly swipe

Elephants are loved around the world
And they should be
Protected along with other pachyderms
We need to see
Wild souls in their habitat
Not trophies on some wall
And Trumps relaxation of the rules
Showed us what a fool

He was to go along with such
A general hauling down
Utter illogicality
Irrational to drown
Out the voice of reason
To pervert the course of care
To support the trophy hunters
And their jaundiced love affair

The gung hoish jingoistic
Discriminatory brigade
Bigoted fanatics
Who wanted to parade
Bits of their dead victims
Be allowed so to do
For me it was wishful thinking
That somehow became true

The unconsciousness prevailing
So many unaware
Unacquainted with the evidence
Although it was all out there
He really dropped a clanger
He was so wide of the mark
Unsound and implausible
And completely in the dark

Social media exploded
The wind and waves he felt
The pointlessness of allowing
Trophies clearly dealt
A fatuous conclusion
A senseless point of view
A tweet was needed and it came
About what he must do

Delay the question, think on it
For he was no ones fool
Clearly there was evidence
He hadn’t seen, thats all
To grit his teeth and be resolute
Unyielding to the cause
Purposeful and committed
And really never pause

Be true and be unflinching
Protect the pachyderms
Not be daunted by the hunters cries
But come to terms
With The people who were clearly
Adamant that he
Should not circumvent the protection
In place to keep them free

And really take it further
Ban trophy hunting, he
Has the chance to be the sage
That folks say he can’t be
