Camelford

JULY 1988

JOhn Stevens was a tanker
driver
Who went to bodmin Moor
To the Lower Moor Water Treatment Works
It was unmanned and whats more
He actually had never been there
And the Tory Party were
Preparing to privatise water
which is why it did occur

Where he should unload his tanker
So lackadaisically
He loaded lt into the water supply
20 tonnes ran free
Aluminium Sulphate
The reaction was what we saw
A concentration 3000 times admissable level
And more
That produced sulphuric acid
Killing 60,000 trout
And salmon in the Camel and Allen rivers
But there seemed to be some doubt

The Board told all the people
Its ok you can drink
Cover the taste with orange juice
Forget the unpleasant link
There has been no monitoring system in place
And many souls have died
It was Britains worse ever poisoning case
Which governments have denied

The criminality was the lack of montoring
Those who
Fell victim to the toxicity
And died, for it was true
Those tested found their brains
Were loaded with aluminium and they
Got alzeimers symptoms before they passed away
The arrogance of the Tories reducing staff
Was wrong
And who knows how many innocent souls
Suffered all along.
