Someone else’s dish

HAinin a small island off of China
And there a cat meat restaurant
And we see
A cage of victims waiting to be
Butchered
Treated with a relentless savagery

They look up to your eyes
Great amber bubbles
Tenderness and yielding
From their soul
One still has a dainty little collar
A stolen pet
Now caged up in this hole

Subjected to the bondage of the many
Disadvantaged and oppressed and seemingly
Waiting for a customer to choose
A particular animal
Corralled and then tortured
Avidly

Who can choose
Their eyes beseechingly turned
Upon the customer
Hopeful they will get a guarantee
Of going home and be a pet
But clearly taken to the pot
Boiled alive the end comes rapidly

Approaching life lost really in a moment
All that bubbling broth and little pain
The martyrdom of eternal damnation
The diner is delighted once again
Spitting out the bones
He seems enraptured
No remorse no pangs of conscience here
Gulping back the hot sauce
Chewing both its eyes
Just moments ago a beautiful little kitten
looking up with genuine surprise

It makes me very angry
To imagine
Someones pet cat boiled up in a stew
Life stolen in what was the briefest moment
A boiling roll a rampageous view
Dead eyes looking upwards to the heavens
Really an intolerablly thick brew

Cat restaurants are widespread
Dogs too are seemingly
Such callousness apparently
Beyond
The urge of western people
Who chomp upon their bacon
Their spare ribs and their neck of lamb
So fond
Of eating animals and lots of others
Who come to be as living souls but they
Receive the wrath of the carivore extraordinary
And nobody is there to save the day.
