A grey mist had descended
Hand fasted with the sky
And icy rain kept falling
Down on us from on high
It really was uncomfortable
With a wind chill that was raw
It really did cut me in half
When I opened my car door
It was blow your hair all over day
And soak your trousers through
When Dave brought in his
Grate and wood
Fire making for to do
Despite the wind despite the rain
His expertise it shone
And the fire Kept burning all the time
Till all of us were gone
The love and care that goes into
Each celebratory event
All that enthusiasm
It really is well spent
As is the expectation
When everyone was here
The rain it petered out
And the mist began to clear
I never really understand
How blessed we are to see
Our two hours conjuring up
A scene of tranquility
A motley crew of masked souls
Not one of them the same
a goodly number braved the storm
ancestors and Fae they came
Veronica she called for Peace
and then described Samhain
How ancestors were now inside
With everything to gain
The wind though it was bitter
We felt that cold embrace
Many lost the feeling in their feet
And in their face
We listened to the blessings
And watched the open veil
And felt the expectation
And the impact of the tale
The witches danced the broomstick
Birch twigs on an ash stake
And An osier binding we were finding
The besoms always make
A handy tool for cleaning
And flying on at night
Being closer to the moon
It is such a delight
The food was blessed
And given
And in the period I
Reminded Everybody there
Of that energy from the sky
Of all that authenticity
The ancestors now here
And others that would join us
For the thinning veil
Brought cheer
I read it quite light heartedly
And then the moon we saw
It had been hidden obviously
But now it shone for sure
the speaking stick was offered
And around the ring did go
The light descended rapidly
And to me it felt like snow
Within the circle actually
Seemingly at peace
Everybody’s energy
And the buffeting did cease
several of our friends remarked
On the Autumn colours they
Had noticed on the roadsides
As they had come in today
Really amazing colours
Unfading and constant hues
Variegated and displayed
Intense really good news
Delicate sober evergreens
Weathered mellow gold
The Amber and the copper
And the umber all seemed rolled
Into one great landscape
The flush the blush the glow
Of madder and of dragons blood
With celadon you know
That beautiful cadmium yellow
Henna and tangerine
A kaleidoscope of wonder
Made up Autumn’s Magic scene
Then we had the Druids prayer
And fed the fire so we
Remember warriors remember ancestors
Remembered all who be
Dave was feeding kindling
To the fire all through and he
Managed to keep it burning
In the centre constantly
All those burning embers
The different coloured flames
Brought back all those memories
And we added all the names
Of ancestors who clearly
Had stopped by for a while
And salt and honey
And loving thoughts
To help us reconcile
At that moment what I realised
the trees around us were
Really being subjected to
A pounding to infer
Some magical conclusion
Really had to be
For it was very peaceful
In the circle actually
The Druids prayer
Read in the dark
HO HO HO And we
Watched our breath sail
Upwards for everyone to see
Then sparklers were lit
Our childhood memories Engaged
And again the trees were
Were taking stick
From the wind clearly enraged
The quarters closed we made our way
In pitch black darkness
And again I say
The wind was really hammering hard
Certainly this aged bard
Felt perplexed by the energy
That undoubtedly had purposely
Allowed us All a peaceful spell
Our resident moles too had done well
All their hills were fresh and high
And within the stones and that’s no lie
So all in all a cheerful time
Braving the cold and my rhyme
Joyful it was a special day
Despite the cold I have to say
Old friends new friends came to be
Part of our circle of constancy
Lanterns glowing candle light
Cordiality alright
To those of you who helped me today
Thank you
