The ants were swarming last night
All around the Theatre Royal
Jack Frost was in the roof tops
Beginning it felt to toil
For he soon brought down
The temperature
And increased the wind indeed
And drove us into the haven of the stalls
At quite a speed
Though not entirely welcomed
The crimson curtains bold
We sat enclosed in people
Who apparently all were sold
On the programme for the evening
Katie Melua, she
Eventually came out
Clad in snow white
For all to see
SUpported by the Gori choir
23 ladies who
Twinkled in the bright lights
And shone the whole night through
We were treated to a galaxy
Of Winter songs and grace
We were in row F So close enough
To see her face
Each song another guitar change
Her voice it heralds dawn
The lighting got me going
Tears were clearly torn
From me, it was all building
It was yielding
All through
Buffeted by the closeness
Of each seat
Which was so true
The first half was of Winter
A new staging a new set
The second half some original songs
The emotions that were let
Loose her family sitting
In the boxes in the sky
Clearly some were experiencing wetness
Of the eye
She took command but still for me
Seemed overcome with timidity
Such beautiful shyness apparently
Bolstered by her Georgian memory
Still in my heart the feeling was there
A subtle persuasion
A subliminal air
Of nostalgia possibly
And ardour too
Of the place of her birth
And the lure of the true,
A perfunctory encore
And two lovely songs
The last one a bonus
Which truly belongs
In the heart of all hearts
In the sensory sense
And a standing ovation
Rapturously intense
Followed
the end
We drifted away
The cold breath of winter
Began to play
Out on the street
Of old Drury Lane
Back in Jack Frosts
Territory again
Finding our car
The restaurants all closing
The Theatre Royal
I was supposing
Would have better staff
More helpful more caring
Getting a drink or a snack
Was so wearing
That was the sadness
That was the shame
Katie I would’t go back there again
The roundhouse it might have been
A railway shed
But the staff there were marvellous
And that being said
The atmosphere memorable
Whereas for me
That Place had an air
Of negativity
