The black snake

The intention is that the long black snake
With Incautiousness was going to make
It’s journey through great sacred sites
Indigenous lands where indigenous rites
Where mindful regard had been set in stone
The probity that they all had known
The conscience and scrupulosity
The ownership so thoroughly
recorded in the Souls of those
first people who you would suppose

Would not give up their rights
Or be subjugated seems to me
To want a pipeline through their land
A great black Monster snake
Whose hand
Commands such evil
And threatens to
Engulf their spirit
As it would do

It’s brinkmanship
As the records show
That pipeline fractures
As well we know
Rivers and soil
Are torn a’sunder
By the way that we do plunder
The last 5 years have seen 80 die
And hundreds were injured
Ask me why
0ver 3000 incidents
With this crude oil
and gas
It so does make my blood boil

And the energy companies
Lie of course
All of them are out in force
Security men with their dogs
Assail
Women and children out on the trail
The pipeline is dangerous
And the standing rock know
That’s why the tribes
Have begun to grow

It’s their land their burial sites
And they must
Protect their water
You cannot drink dust
Nor toxic waste
We all must breathe air
The tribes they are right
It’s actually fair

They stand at the gates of
Humanity here
Women and children
With one great fear
Of losing their water
Of losing their air
Of dealing with people
Wholly unfair
Soulless these corporates
Monsters in fact
Polluting and shooting
That’s how they react

This coming together
Of tribes near and far
A great outpouring of faiths
Where they are
The mistrust it is there
For its happened before
Promises broken
So now what’s in store

These are enlightened people
With great consciousness
Acquainted with Nature
And ongoing stress
Well grounded people
Punctual and true
Faithful and sensitive
In what they do

So disillusioned by history, they
All have been thwarted and made to pay
Clearly crestfallen feeling let down
Forewarned of the prophecy
The deceptive crown
Falsity bad faith and mendacity
Much double dealing
Around them they see
Doublecrossed and betrayed
Throughout history

They have made up their minds
This camp is to be
Where they will stay
And the great Missouri
Will be the stand off
Will be the place
Where the great nation tribes
Will show one great face

Affirming their stature
Emphatically so
With determination
To stay in the flow
With such concentration
And staying power
They will fight for what’s right
And no matter how

They are endangered
By threats or by war
They are protected
No one should ignore
Their resolve on this issue
Their citadel
For running away
Would just take them to Hell

Pure pacification
Their kind of detente
Each has an olive branch
Really they can’t
Go back to their homes
Until this matters solved
Till they reach a conclusion
And feel evolved

Free born free bred
Autarkic they be
They are done with subjection
And slavery
This is their moment
This makes a great play
This black snake must never
Just wriggle away

In the past 5 years in the US
There have been 3300 ruptures
Killing 80 people injuring almost 400
Appertaining to crude oil and gas
So much pollution of land and water
And air
