The Cotswold Order of Druids met
At the Greedy Goose the day was set
Fair and crisp, for a good retreat
At A warm and friendly place to eat
Above was a blue and dappled sky
And mercifully the day was dry
Just A few miles from the ROll Right Stones
A really great place to rest ones bones
Excellent ale and food as well
The service was good it just seemed to gel
It was relaxed and happy too
With an intimacy that was good and true
Just up a few stairs to an area where
We got some privacy and we could share
Our stories really and truly just be
Relaxed which allowed some constancy
Positive energy and hearty fayre
Nothing stage managed relaxed and aware
Of why we were there, and what it all meant
21 years together they’d spent
It was a sojourn back in time
Remembering the people and what a climb
Into the now how It all fell in place
But It was delightful to just retrace
The characters really who set us fair
A coming together of like minds where
with nurturing and supportive souls
Carrying out their respective roles
Crickly Hill and the old Beech Tree
It was there that many a ceremony
Was carried out then ROLL Rights where we
And Stone Henge and Clear well came to be
It was friendly and peaceful and jocular too
and very enjoyable really all through
You just could relax in the company there
And breathe it all in and just be aware
Of those who had helped build the order
How they
By their combined efforts
Gave us today
Really an order of meaningful friends
In tune with the cosmos and the message it sends
We all left to meet up again at Roll Rights
A beautiful crisp day with myriad lights
Of Autumn around us, the sky dappled blue
And the leaves on the trees were of every hue
Mead it was flowing the rich honey sweet
And all sorts of musical instruments greet
The peace of the stones,as we each took our piece
And really made merry it was our release
Our spirited music rose into the sky
Didgeridoo’s drums and whistles were why
A coming together of exuberant thought
Making our music with a splendour of sort
Inner child energy soared into the sky
Across the stones where the great mole hills high
Rhythm and beat diatonic and all
Cacophonous splendour we all had a ball
What did it matter releasing were we
Out in the air with the will to be free
Playing catch we were innocent dancers in time
With our flutes and our pitch pipes the soft sounds
could climb
And somehow for some reason the sky became
Bluer and bluer our eternal flame
Of lots of old Druids reliving their past
Remembering childhood and what had been cast
It was our spell to invoke inspiration
We danced and we ran with music in motion
it was unscripted and of course off the cuff
But we all came together until
we’d all had enough
More mead and a circle and the Druids prayer
As our combined breaths
sailed into the air
It really felt good as we hugged
For we knew
Samhain on the 6th of Novemer
Which drew
Us all to recount the thinning of the veil
And to all bring our head lamps
And make a light trail
With sparklers and lanterns
And torches and tapers
Dave with his fire
And his myriad capers
Hopefully we would have a cloudless sky
With the moon full of gold
Where the beasties could fly
Our circle of head lights
Might glow and abound
To welcome all ancestors
On this hallowed ground
Special thanks to Our Arch Druid Veronica
Who really has done so much to make what we have possible
