Killing trees for the christmas festivities

Origins and tradition
Are what its all about
The unscrupulous cut the roots off
Which is how they flout
The sales of goods act actually
Destruction is what they do
Cut off the roots
Or boil them
It may last 12 days
Some do

Their means of true existence
Stolen in one hit
The meanness of the trader
Who doesn’t care a bit
If only we had let it be
It could be growing still
But for twelve days we are wanting
And so the tree we kill

Minus roots we stuff it in a plastic
Pot
And we
Decorate with plastic and glass baubles
Such a tree
Gradually its dying
In a centrally heated place
No roots to sustain it
It is a disgrace

Originally in Strasbourg in 1789
A german family had an evergreen tree
Grown near the Rhine
and it
Was just transferred back outside
And for ages it did sit
Reminding them of the yule tide
And was some kind of hit

And now most families have one
The markets have gone wild
Growing them for christmas
And destroying them
What child
Would ever want to see this
But it happens anyway
The profit of the trader
Sees the poor trees
Made to pay

Symbolism matters
Apparently, but still
They support the unethical trade
And probably always will
The ethical will plant it
In your garden which is right
And you can decorate it there
What a pretty sight

Its all about the evergreen
That spirit you can see
Not languishing in some coloured pot
And dying rapidly
Its needles dropping everywhere
For no more its sap can Flow
Its life force has been cut off
By the illiterate, it can’t grow

Origin and tradition
Wasted in a way
Honesty and ethic
Lost along the way
Nature being compromised
By evil and disregard
For how the tree had struggled
pushing through soil thats rock tgg
