Exporting baby elephants
To China
Zimbabwe does this
Its a money spinner
The problem though arises
For these little ones
Despite the money
It is not a winner
Elephants are taken
From their mothers
And their families
And in elephant talk
This is a a major move
Transferring them into
What is adversity
Misfortune really
And out of their groove
In 2014 China wanted
Babies to be housed
Eventually
In the Chimealong Safari Park
In Guandong
First the need was quarantine
And we see
The babies between two and four
Years waiting
Many scarred and bleeding
And forlorn
Many really covered in their urine
And their feces
China is for them a frightening dawn
Zimbabwe needs the money
And forgets about the souls
They allocate and send to China
Those who take their roles
And suffer transportation
And clearly a lack of care
They are innocent little beings
And it all seems so unfair
Its more to do with punishment
Being beaten we can see
Wounds upon their backs
And swellings tragically
Men with long sticks guarding them
One must wonder why
They need such long stout sticks
About them
And why so many die
They have an air of hopelessness
A counsel of despair
Their timidity and fearfulness
All of them now share
They seem afraid and frightened
Lamenting all the way
Wet eyed and looking doleful
They just don’t want to play
This joylessness and low spirits
And heart ache seems to be
That they are so unnerved and sad
As anyone can see
No veterinary around them
From the blood stains on their souls
Just a sulky and mopish attitude
From all these new controls
The elephants are slaves to us
Bought and sold at will
The largest land animals
So much blood we spill
Their emotions and their heartaches
We collect along the way
And these poor souls are smarting
From the journey I can say
They must think of their mothers
Who taught them all they know
Enduring life without her
The anguish of the show
Prostration desolation
Their awful tale of woe
And The ongoing botheration
That apparently will grow
