Human trash

For millions of years the turtles have known
Costa Rica’s the place that you can call your own
The beach or refuge there has moist warm deep sand
And its safe to nest there that they understand
So recently of course they all came to the beach
These huge turtles exhausted they reach
Up in The spray as pregnant as hell
To be greeted by hundreds of people as well
The Nosara flood plain sadly was dry
So tourists and others could happen by

With their selfie sticks phones and children in tow
Waiting for the huge great big turtles to show
Dragging themselves up the sandy incline
Against the great spray in a massive great line
To be met by a wall of humans who felt
They would take an advantage
Some stood there some knelt
down waiting for them
And with no where to go
but back to the sea
Back to the flow

As tired as one can be
some just stopped and fell
And were used by the children
to step on, so Hell!

Some who never got there they just swam away
others dug holes
And then tried to lay
But the children walked over their nests and kicked sand
These ignorant tourists they don’t understand
So removed now from nature just digital fools
Using their ipads breaking the rules
Frightening these turtles now suffering so
That back in The water some sadly did go

The two rangers and three policeman could not do a thing
Parents a lot them more kids did bring
It was a free for all disgusting to see
The lack of respect and the discourtesy
Un worthy to be there their hostility
Was unprecedented their true sanity
Lost in the arrogance which was to be
Their lack of conscience and integrity

Such degeneration right across the board
Many were parents and their reward
Was a selfie yes possibly
but such a transgression
Had led to a miserable turtle procession
One after another they slid back and swam
For sure broken hearted cold water did slam

Into their tired aching bodies for they
Are spent from the journey this was their way
Of protecting their own but the great human hordes
Were out in force brandishing their swords
We have to feel regret for humans today
Who have lost touch with nature
And now theres no way
The price for this ignorance this enormity
And this generation of turtle’s will be

Scarcer and scarcer and may not return
We pollute with our shit as some cannot discern
What is right what is wrong and why we shouldn’t be
Interfering with nesting in all honesty
